SUMMARY:Ft. George Inlet Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:We will be cleaning up the Ft. George Inlet on October 22 and we can use your help. Meet us at South end of Little Talbot Island State Park to help us pick up trash. We will be working from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Park just north of the Ft George River in the parking lot on the left side of the road. (If you are coming from downtown\, drive east on Heckscher. From the intersection of I-295 and Heckscher\, it is ~9 miles to the ferry landing and then another 2 miles to bridge over the Ft George River.  After you go over the bridge\, look for the turn off to the left that will take you to the parking lot on the north side of Heckscher Drive\, just east of the Ft George River and bridge. If you get to the entrance to Little Talbot Island State Park\, you have gone too far (we will be working about 3 miles south of the entrance)) \n\n\n\nPlease wear closed-toe shoes\, clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and a hat. Bring work gloves if you have them\, sunscreen\, insect repellent and a full reusable water bottle. TPF will provide additional water\, snacks\, work equipment\, and insect repellent. \n\n\n\nVolunteers can earn community service hours. Children under 16 must be supervised by their parent/guardian or scout leader. Anyone under 18 years old must have a parent/guardian’s signature on the liability waiver before starting work. SUMMARY:Manatee Tank: A Youth Climate Action Pitch Competition for Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:Timucuan Parks Foundation will be at Jacksonville Zoo on Oct. 24 for the Manatee Tank: A Youth Climate Action Pitch Competition for Sustainability. The competition is a partnership between the City of Jacksonville\, Jacksonville University\, Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens\, and Think Bold and will be held on the International Day of Climate Action. Individuals\, ages 15 to 24\, were challenged to develop projects that will strengthen Jacksonville’s sustainability and resilience efforts. Finalists will pitch their ideas for a chance to win a micro-grant to complete the project. \n\n\n\nTPF will be set up at the event to showcase our work for the community and Jacksonville’s wilderness parks and preserves. We will also support our partners at PossAbilities Plus and UF/IFAS\, who are working with two young people from PossAbilities Plus who will pitch an idea for a native plant restoration and bird-friendly art project connecting Castaway Island Preserve and PossAbilities Plus in Atlantic Beach. \n\n\n\nThe City of Jacksonville’s Manatee Tank: A Youth Pitch Competition for Sustainability initiative is funded by the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund.

DESCRIPTION:Join artist Scott Merrell for a fun\, relaxed nature journaling outing designed to help you slow down\, look closer\, and discover the stories hiding in the natural world. Along the way\, Scott encourages three simple questions: What do I notice? What do I wonder? What does this remind me of? \n\n\n\nWe’ll sketch\, jot down observations\, measure\, ask questions\, and share discoveries together. No artistic experience is needed\, just bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore. \n\n\n\nTo start the day\, we will be taking a 1.5 mile walk. This family-friendly\, fun event raises awareness of the threats to right whales and how we can help in their recovery. It highlights efforts to protect whales from extinction\, as well as ocean-themed activities and exhibits that emphasize education and environmentally responsible adventures and products.
