SUMMARY:MLK Day of Service
DESCRIPTION:Timucuan Parks Foundation invites the community to join them for the Martin Luther King\, Jr. Day of Service on Monday\, January 19. This year\, TPF\, in coordination with Talbot Islands State Parks and Friends of Talbot Islands\, will be cleaning up the beach at Little Talbot Island State Park. Volunteers should meet at the park at 12157 Heckscher Drive by 8:45 a.m. to allow time to enter the park and sign in before the 9 a.m. start. The park fee will be waived for volunteers\, and rangers at the gate will direct participants to the southernmost parking lot. \n\n\n\nVolunteers will pick up litter along the wrack line and at the rock jetty. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Please bring a full reusable water bottle and gloves\, if available. Volunteers may want to bring a backpack or a clip to hold their water bottle\, leaving their hands free to pick up litter. TPF will provide gloves for those who don’t have them\, as well as trash bags\, grabbers\, granola bar snacks and extra water to refill bottles. \n\n\n\nThe MLK Day of Service event is expected to last until noon\, and volunteers of all ages are welcome. Those under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent\, guardian or youth leader. Volunteers are eligible for community service hours. DESCRIPTION:The 7 Creeks Recreation Area park partners invite the community to join them on Saturday\, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the 5th Annual 7 Creeks Fest. The family-friendly event is an opportunity to come out and experience the 7 Creeks Recreation Area and celebrate and explore its network of parks with more than 30 miles of trails and waterways. The festivities include educational exhibitors\, live music\, activities for all age groups\, and more. All activities are free and open to the public. Visitors can check in at the Fest Welcome Hub at Betz-Tiger Point Preserve at 13990 Pumpkin Hill Rd.\, Jacksonville\, FL\, 32226. \n\n\n\nThe 7 Creeks Recreation Area park partners include Timucuan Parks Foundation\, the City of Jacksonville\, Talbot Islands State Parks\, Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve\, North Florida Land Trust\, and Visit Jacksonville. Each year\, the partners join together to host activities that highlight the beauty of the area. On March 7\, visitors can enjoy guided hikes\, self-guided hikes\, kayaking\, biking\, a camping clinic\, sound bathing experience\, bingo scavenger hunt\, prescribed fire equipment demo\, and dip netting. \n\n\n\nThere will also be a fishing clinic for young people aged 6 to 17. DESCRIPTION:Come out to the Riverside Arts Market on Saturday\, April 25\, as we celebrate Earth Day. We will be joining St. Johns Riverkeeper and RAM to highlight the different environmental and river-friendly efforts going on in Jacksonville. Stop by our table to learn about the many wonderful natural spaces that we promote and protect! Jacksonville has one of the largest park systems available for the community to explore and enjoy! \n\n\n\nWe will be stationed in the plaza directly across the street from RAM at 715 Riverside Ave. where we will have a table set-up amongst over a dozen other organizations and businesses in our community. There will also be demonstrations on topics like Florida Friendly Landscaping\, rain barrels\, plastic-free seed starting\, and stormwater runoff.  \n\n\n\nBONUS! The River Taxi will be providing two short boat trips\, one at 11:00 AM and one at 11:45 AM. You can get your ticket ahead of time at https://www.jaxrivertaxi.com/ – click “calendar”\, select April 25th\, and scroll to the bottom. You can also get a ticket in-person at the event\, availability pending. Tickets are a sliding scale $5-$15 per person. In 1999\, he began working with the City of Jacksonville’s Preservation Project to acquire and protect natural and environmentally sensitive lands. We will work until approximately 8:30 p.m. \n\n\n\nPlease dress accordingly and wear closed-toe shoes. If you have work gloves\, please bring them\, along with a full reusable water bottle. We will provide additional water\, snacks\, work equipment and insect repellent. \n\n\n\nCommunity service hours can be earned while helping with this project. Children under 16 must be supervised by their parent/guardian or scout leader. Anyone under 18 years old must have a parent/guardian’s signature on the liability waiver before starting work.
