SUMMARY:National Trails Day at Cedar Point Preserve (note change from Seaton Creek!)

You’re invited to join TPF\, City of Jacksonville\, and North Florida Trailblazers (chapter of Florida Trail Association) for trail clearing and a hike. \nOriginally scheduled for Seaton Creek Historic Preserve\, the venue for this event had to be changed because of the abundance of yellow flies this time of year at Seaton Creek.  There are still some yellow flies at Cedar Point Preserve\, so come prepared with a wide-brimmed hat and bug spray.  Please bring a full water bottle and loppers and/or clippers and work gloves if you have them\, but we will have extras.  We will also provide water and Nature Valley granola bars. \nCome ready to lop and chop\, or just come for a walk through the beautiful preserve to the bridge connecting the city’s Cedar Point Preserve with the National Park Service’s Cedar Point. \n

SUMMARY:Ribault’s Landing
DESCRIPTION:Local history will come alive at Fort Caroline National Memorial from 10 AM to 3 PM during the annual commemoration of the French naval expedition that landed along the banks of the St. Johns River in the 16th century. \nOn May 1\, 1562\, Captain Jean Ribault\, along with several ships\, landed at the mouth of what is today known as the St. Johns River. Ribault named the river “The River of May.” The landing led to the establishment of La Caroline in 1564\, a settlement that was planned for commerce and as a refuge for French Protestants who were fleeing religious persecution. \nNational Park Service rangers and volunteers dressed in period attire will tell the story of how the French lived and worked in their new settlement. “This commemorative event provides an interactive way of learning about the significance of Fort Caroline National Memorial\,” says Superintendent Chris Hughes. \nLiving history activities will occur throughout the day and historic weapons demonstrations will take place at 10 and 11 AM\, 1 PM\, 2 PM and 3 PM. \nThis event is free and open to the public. For more information\, please call  904-641-7155 or visit www.nps.gov/timu.

SUMMARY:Healthy Living: Art in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Healthy Living: Art in the Park\n\nResearch shows both positive mental and spiritual effects when people have access to nature. The therapeutic potential of natural parks relies on its complexity\, mystery\, and power-all elements that foster restorative effects in people. Relax\, observe\, breathe\, and capture that feeling as you try your hand at “plein air” (open air) painting or drawing. \nArt materials will be supplied\, or participants are welcome to bring art materials they prefer. No experience necessary. Please wear comfortable closed-toed shoes for the healthy ranger-led walk (less than one mile) and clothing you do not mind getting paint on. \nFREE\, but preregistration is required at this link. \nThis will conclude the spring Healthy Living walk series.
