DESCRIPTION:Timucuan Parks Foundation invites the community to join them for the Martin Luther King\, Jr. Day of Service on Monday\, January 20. Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. at the fishing pier/boardwalk at Blue Cypress Park at 4012 University Blvd. N. in Arlington to help with litter pickup and park beautification\, including under the boardwalk. MLK Day of Service is an annual nationwide observance celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. \n\n\n\nVolunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and clothes they do not mind getting dirty. The work under the boardwalk and along the shoreline will occur during low tide\, but the ground could be mucky. We will walk to the boat ramp\, the Fitzpatrick Ruins\, and the scenic bridge connecting the National Park Service’s property with the City of Jacksonville’s Cedar Point Preserve with a number of educational stops along the way. DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday\, March 8\, for the fourth annual 7 Creeks Fest\, a celebration of Jacksonville’s expansive 7 Creeks Recreation Area. The free\, family-friendly event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes activities in multiple parks that comprise the 7 Creeks Recreation Area\, spanning more than 30 miles of trails and waterways. Timucuan Parks Foundation\, the City of Jacksonville\, Florida State Parks\, North Florida Land Trust\, and Visit Jacksonville partner each year to host activities throughout the parks to showcase the 7 Creeks Recreation Area to the community and lead an exploration of the natural spaces.   \n\n\n\nAll activities are free and open to the public. Visitors can check in at the Fest Welcome Hub at Betz-Tiger Point Preserve at 13990 Pumpkin Hill Rd. and then choose an adventure. There will be guided hikes\, birding hikes\, native plant hikes\, archaeological hikes\, a Hike into History at Cedar Point\, kayaking in Pumpkin Hill Creek\, canoeing at Cedar Point boat ramp\, a camping clinic\, and dip netting. Explore Bogey Creek Preserve and take a selfie at its selfie stations. There will also be a youth fishing clinic for ages 6 to 17 (registration will be required)\, environmental exhibitors\, live music\, food trucks and more. SUMMARY:Fort George Inlet Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:We will host a cleanup at Fort George Inlet on Tuesday\, May 20\, from 9 a.m. until noon. Volunteers are needed to help us remove litter from the shoreline at low tide. Please wear closed-toe shoes\, clothes you can get dirty\, and a hat. Bring your work gloves (if you have them)\, sunscreen\, insect repellent\, and a full reusable water bottle. We will have work equipment\, additional water\, snacks\, and extra insect repellent. \n\n\n\nWe will be working at the South end of Little Talbot Island State Park. Park just north of the Ft George River in the parking lot on the left side of the road. If you are coming from downtown\, drive east on Heckscher. From the intersection of I-295 and Heckscher\, it is ~9 miles to the ferry landing and then another 2 miles to the bridge over the Ft. George River.  After you go over the bridge\, look for the turn off to the left that will take you to the parking lot on the north side of Heckscher Drive.  If you get to the entrance to Little Talbot Island State Park\, you have gone too far (we will be working about 3 miles south of the entrance\, where you would pay). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers can earn community service hours. Children under 16 must be supervised by their parent/guardian or scout leader. Anyone under 18 must have a parent/guardian’s signature on the liability waiver before starting work. TPF will have additional gloves\, trash bags and supplies and will provide extra water to refill bottles as well as snacks. \n\n\n\nVolunteers of all ages are welcome\, but those under eighteen must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent\, guardian or scout leader. Volunteers are eligible for community service hours. SUMMARY:First Day Hike at Little Talbot Island State Park
DESCRIPTION:Make plans to join Florida State Park Rangers and Timucuan Parks Foundation for the First Day Hike! You can start the new year on the right foot with your family and friends at Little Talbot Island State Park\, located at 12157 Heckscher Drive. The hike will begin at 10 a.m. on the Dune Ridge Trail\, but since this is a popular event\, be sure to arrive about 30 minutes early to allow time for parking. There will be a park entry fee of $5 per vehicle for up to 8 people\, $4 for a single-occupant vehicle\, and $2 per bike or pedestrian. \n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you there!
