DESCRIPTION:Join this free expert-led bird hike through the Timucuan Preserve. Birding is a great way to explore the Timucuan Preserve. Birding 101 includes an overview of how to use binoculars\, field guides\, and various field marking to identify birds. The park has a limited supply of binoculars that can be borrowed free of charge. Participants are encouraged to bring water and to wear insect repellent\, closed-toed shoes\, sun screen\, and a hat. People of all ages and skill levels are welcomed. This hike is organized by the National Park Service and Duval Audubon Society. Click here for more information. \nAll hikes meet at the Fort Caroline visitor center at 10:00 a.m. for registration (12713 Ft. Caroline Rd.). The Theodore Roosevelt Area is located next to park headquarters at 13165 Mt. Pleasant Rd. Enter at the driveway to right.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Talbot Islands State Parks and Timucuan Parks Foundation in a morning of outdoor trail work and vegetation clearing to help protect a one-of-a-kind cultural gem\, the Timucuan Indian Grand Site shell ring on Big Talbot Island State Park. Volunteers will assist in clearing encroaching vegetation using hand trimming tools\, treating palmetto stumps\, and removing debris. These efforts help maintain the site as the park plans to open an interpretive trail for the public to discover this local wonder. \nFollowing the cleanup\, the Friends of Talbot Islands State Parks will provide lunch. Friends of Talbot Islands will hold their Annual Meeting\, giving everyone a chance to hear about all of the opportunities to assist our parks and rangers. You will be among the first to hear about upcoming enhancements to the Grand Site and how you can be a part! \nThis is a project for volunteers 18 and older\, and preregistration is required at this link. \nWEAR long pants\, long sleeves\, and sturdy shoes such as hiking boots or rubber rain boots. \nBRING a water bottle\, insect repellent\, and sunscreen. Also loppers\, clippers or garden gloves if you have them. \nMEET on the south end of Big Talbot Island at the Wayside parking area along State Rd.
