Timucuan Parks Foundation and Boeing Partner for Park Programming and Environmental Stewardship

Timucuan Parks Foundation (TPF) has a new partner. Boeing has joined the organization to support its park programming and environmental stewardship. Boeing officially kicked off its support this weekend with a volunteer project at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park.

Twenty-six Boeing volunteers and their families spent Saturday at the city park, along with more than a dozen volunteers from TPF’s Trail Team and Young Professional Stewards. The group thoroughly cleaned the picnic areas and the waterfront around the pond. They also removed all the invasive wild taro from the entrance to the pond and cleared the vegetation around all the disabled parking signs throughout the park.

“Having a partner, like Boeing, is crucial to our mission, and we are extremely thankful for their support,” said Fred Richards, executive director of TPF. “Boeing is both a funding and a hands-on partner through volunteer projects like these, and they help to support our park programming for youth groups who might not otherwise get to experience our wilderness parks and preserves.”

Boeing recently helped support an event at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park for Blue Star families, including youth, parents, active military, and veterans. TPF hosted the group for kayaking in the lake and a ranger-led hike through the maritime hammock and along the beach. The company will also help support an upcoming event for girls from Foundation Academy at Castaway Island Preserve.

“Boeing is proud to partner with an organization that preserves and protects Jacksonville’s biodiversity, natural resources and rich history,” said Rhiannon Sherrard, site director for Boeing Jacksonville. “With Boeing’s help, Timucuan Parks Foundation’s programming enhances the physical health and mental well-being of local youth by providing more opportunities and access to these essential, natural habitats.”
