Friends of Talbot Islands State Parks invites the community to join them from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, for the 6th Annual Talbot Tidewater Celebration. The event at the Ribault Club on Fort George Island at 11241 Ft. George Rd. will celebrate natural spaces in the Talbot Islands State Parks and Timucuan Preserve with a day filled with family-friendly fun. The Talbot Tidewater Celebration occurs each year on National Public Lands Day and is supported by Florida State Parks, the National Park Service, and Timucuan Parks Foundation.
Guests will be treated to many activities, including guided nature, birding, and geocaching hikes, canoeing, and mock dolphin and manatee rescues that will be held the entire day. There will be a fossil and shark tooth exhibit, SUP yoga demonstrations, shore birds, sea turtles, and archeology interactive areas, kids’ crafts, local and state conservation exhibitors, and more.
Children can participate in the Junior Ranger Angler Fishing Clinic, but space is limited, and registration is required. The free event is open to kids ages 6 to 17. Email [email protected] to reserve a spot. The first 75 kids who register will receive a free rod and reel. The fishing clinic will teach casting, knot tying, ethical angling, and local Gullah Geechee fishing heritage. The Junior Ranger Angler Fishing Clinic was made possible with a grant from the National Park Foundation.
