Battle for the First Coast

Travel back in time to experience the first battle between European empires for control of Florida’s First Coast in 1565. Living historians will conduct musket and cannon firing demonstrations and other aspects of 16th century life. Events on Saturday will be at Fort Caroline and Sunday at Fort Matanzas National Monument in St. Augustine.

As the weather begins to cool, you can learn about the work that went on at Kingsley Plantation. This family-friendly event is free and features living history demonstrations such as indigo dyeing, butter churning, cotton spinning and cooking. You can also watch musket demonstrations. More details can be found here. This event may be canceled due to inclement weather.
