Timucuan Parks Foundation has made it easy to monitor the status of the city, state and national parks on the First Coast. The nonprofit supporter of the local parks has created a page on their website for the public to get up to date information on park closures. Please visit our park closures page to see where you might be able to get outside and enjoy nature as you keep yourself and others safe from the threat of the coronavirus.
All of the City of Jacksonville parks are closed through the end of the month and volunteer projects, such as the St. Johns River Celebration and Cleanup that was set for March 21, have been canceled.
The Talbot Islands State Parks, which are part of the state park system, will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, all activities and events have been canceled including the Grand Site cleanup scheduled for March 21.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is also canceling all events, activities, special event reservations, pavilion rentals and camping reservations at Florida State Parks for the next 60 days. Existing overnight camping reservations that begin Wednesday, March 18 will be honored but visitors must arrive before 5 p.m. Beginning Friday, March 20, campgrounds and all overnight accommodations will be fully closed.
Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve has suspended visitor services operations at Fort Caroline National Memorial, Kingsley Plantation and Ribault Column. Fort Caroline National Memorial, Kingsley Plantation and Ribault Column are temporarily closed. Visitors may access trails and the boat ramp at Cedar Point. Trails at Theodore Roosevelt Area and Spanish Pond remain open.
NPS’s upcoming speakers series scheduled for March 23 and March 30 at the University Park Branch Library as part of the 400th Commemoration Special Programming has been canceled. NPS has also canceled its event for World Migratory Bird Day on April 18 and Ribault’s Landing on May 2.
Timucuan Parks Foundations and AARP’s next Healthy Living walk set for April 8 at Kingsley Plantation has been canceled. At this time, the final walk in the spring series, Healthy Living: The Birds!, is still on for May 11 at Huguenot Memorial Park. The Museum of Science and History and Timucuan Parks Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Exhibition at MOSH will be closed until April 1.
