Timucuan Parks Foundation and the Beaches Museum will host the second in a series of Boardwalk Talks at its “Celebrate & Explore Our Wilderness Parks” exhibition on Thursday, June 17. Fine Artist and TPF Board Member Kathy Stark will discuss her work featured in the exhibition, which she helped create, along with her project “The Wilderness of North Florida’s Parks.” The event will be held at the museum at 6:30 p.m. and can be joined in-person in a limited capacity or virtually.
Stark will deliver a visual presentation on the parks, history and art in the Jacksonville community. She will talk about how she became an ambassador for the “wilderness” parks and preserves that are found throughout the First Coast. She will also be discussing her “The Wilderness of North Florida’s Parks” project which consists of a book and traveling art exhibit. The book features commentary from former Governor and Senator Bob Graham along with Florida Times-Union Columnist and Author Mark Woods. A book signing will follow the presentation. Stark’s project is sponsored by Merrill Lynch and is in partnership with TPF.
Stark, a Jacksonville native, specializes in watercolor and oil painting. Most of her artwork depicts natural Florida landscapes, which she explores by hiking, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and dog walking. Her work has been shown in museums and galleries throughout Northeast Florida and has been collected both privately and corporately.
Guests can join Stark’s Boardwalk Talk in-person or virtually, but pre-registration is required. There will be limited attendance for the in-person event and social distancing and masks are required. To register, call (904) 241-5657 or visit beachesmuseum.org and click on the event on the right side of the home page. The event is free to Museum members and there is a suggested $5 donation for non-members. Beaches Museum is located at 381 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville Beach.
Timucuan Parks Foundation’s 20th Anniversary “Celebrate & Explore Our Wilderness Parks” showcases Northeast Florida’s parks and preserves and TPF’s support of the parks as well as how people can get involved with the nonprofit. The Beaches Museum exhibition features eight new paintings from Stark and four of her park paintings that were original to the exhibition. It also includes video drone footage captured by Tom Schifanella, and still images taken by photographer Will Dickey. Schifanella, Dickey and Mark Woods will be featured in upcoming Boardwalk Talks.
